Charlotte to host ACC Football Championship Game through 2020

The ACC announced its return to neutral sites in North Carolina Wednesday - one day after the NCAA awarded the state championship bids.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — The Atlantic Coast Conference has added a replacement year to contracts for North Carolina venues that lost championships when the league relocated events due to a law limiting protections against LGBT people. The ACC and NCAA changes come two weeks after the NCAA ended its ban against the North Carolina, when it announced the organization's Board of Governors "reluctantly voted to allow consideration of championship bids in North Carolina".

"We are pleased that ACC neutral site championships will return to the state of North Carolina beginning with the 2017-18 academic year", ACC Commissioner John Swofford said in a statement.

For example, the first- and second-round men's basketball games in 2020 will be held in Greensboro.

Wake County had a total of 57 bids for tournament and championship games over the next five years. The 2018 ACC Baseball Championship is scheduled for May 22-27. At the time the NCAA said its board would have preferred an unconditional repeal of House Bill 2 and that a majority of the board "reluctantly" chose to return to North Carolina.

The NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship will be at the CenturyLink Center Omaha on December 17-19, 2020.

North Carolina is back in the running after lawmakers repealed House Bill 2. "Jacksonville will compete. We are grateful for the teamwork and collaborationthat went into securing these future NCAA events and we can't wait to serve as hosts". "We're looking forward to working with the groups that earned preliminary-round basketball sites, as well as the local organizing committees already slated to host NCAA Men's and Women's Final Fours". The 2015 game between Clemson and North Carolina attracted 74,514 fans, setting a Bank of America Stadium attendance record.

The ACC women's basketball tournament will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum for the 18th time in 19 years, February 28-March 4, 2018.

Six championships were not included in this bid cycle.

The NCAA on Tuesday awarded a Division I men's basketball regional to Jacksonville for 2019, which will mark the fourth time in 13years the city has been a part of what has become known as "The Big Dance" or "March Madness". The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, previously held the 1988 event on campus at Williams Arena.

"This is certainly great news and a true testament from the NCAA as to the confidence they have in our department and SUNY Plattsburgh to continue to provide a true championship experience for the student-athletes", said Plattsburgh State Director of Athletics Mike Howard.
