NJ Transit halts services after minor derailment at Penn Station


Four passengers suffered minor injuries, according to Smith, out of the 1,200 passengers and crew on board.

"NEC, NJCL, RVL and Midtown Direct rail service is suspended in/out of NYPS due to a derailed NJ TRANSIT train in NYPS", NJ Transit said on its website.

The Long Island Railroad has issued a service advisory to rush hour commuters planning on taking LIRR trains out of Penn Station today.

New Jersey Transit said one of its trains derailed while pulling into the station at a slow speed.

This is the second time in two weeks that trains have been stopped. It came a week and a half after an Amtrak train partially derailed while leaving Penn Station.

Northeast Corridor, New Jersey Coastline and Raritan Valley service was operating to/from Newark and Secaucus. Service is also available at Jamaica and Woodside, but train cancellations may impact service at those stations. "Cross-honoring system-wide w/NJT bus, private carriers, & PATH at NPS, HOB, and 33rd Street in NY".

Monday's derailment of the NJ Transit train happened just after 9 a.m.

In September previous year, a New Jersey Transit commuter train plowed into the platform at the Hoboken, N.J., station, killing one person and injuring more than 100 others.
