CostsUnited Launch Alliance CEO Tory Bruno said baseline price of the most simple version of an Atlas V by SpaceX begins at $109 million-pricier than the $62 million cost of SpaceX's Falcon 9. The launch marked the very first commercial satellite mission facilitated at Kennedy Space Center and the second launch for SpaceX on its new pad which is still being refurbished to support future deep space missions and human spaceflight.

These performance factors required the Falcon 9's first-stage booster to use its maximum propellent haul.

Later that day, SpaceX confirmed via Twitter that the EchoStar satellite had been delivered to the geostationary transfer orbit (GTO). And soon after, the company will launch its first-ever payload for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office. The reiteration of Falcon 9 will possibly be the final upgrade for the rocket. The Falcon 9 rocket deployed EchoStar XXIII, a communications satellite that provides broadcast services for Brazil and is now orbiting about 22,000 miles above the Earth's surface. Elon Musk, a CEO, had already made an announcement back in January through a tweet. The Falcon Heavy and Falcon 9 Block 5 should both launch at some point later this year. The Falcon 9 rocket that was used is also nearing its end of life. SpaceX is developing a heavy-lift vehicle that is equal to three Falcon 9's together.

The US Air Force (USAF) has awarded a contract to Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) for global positioning system (GPS) III launch services.

Expected to be completed by April 2019, work under the contract will be carried out at Hawthorne, California; Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida; and McGregor, Texas.

The contracts, while not putting a major financial dent into the billion-dollar industry, potentially represent an uptick in the region's space industry.

With the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, SpaceX has a $1.6 billion contract to resupply the International Space Station and a second pact valued at as much as $2.6 billion to transport crews to the orbiting lab.
