Palestine Calls for Global Efforts to End Israeli Occupation

Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the United Nations (UN), on Thursday said that the United States "absolutely" supports a two-solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to the Associated Press.

The United States wants to help bring the Israelis and Palestinians to "the table to have them talk through this in a fresh way, to say, 'Okay we're going back to the drawing board".

On Tuesday, a senior White House official said that the administration of US President Donald Trump would no longer seek to dictate an eventual peace settlement by insisting on a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

A two-state solution - the idea of Israel and Palestine living side-by-side and at peace - has been the bedrock of U.S. diplomacy for the past two decades.

In a statement, he urged worldwide community to do everything it can to bring about a two-state solution to the conflict as there is no alternative.

Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour said the council had reaffirmed its support for the two-state solution and that there was "no need to reinvent the wheel" in the peace process.

"Netanyahu was asked on his way to Washington if he still supported the idea of two-state solution and he did not make any comments", Smith said. Husam Zomlot, strategic affairs adviser to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, told Arab News Wednesday that the PA is willing to deal positively with the Trump administration on that basis, and rejected the Israeli prime minister's language of dictation.

"So it's an ominous indication - with Netanyahu coming to visit Trump - [that] Trump is prepared to embrace an escalation of the conflict in the region with really serious prospects [for] the armed expulsion of the Palestinians and the escalation of USA attacks in the region, including on Iran", the analyst stated.

Resolution 2334 was adopted at the end of 2016 and declared settlements an obstacle to peace and called on Israel to halt construction. "The US is just there to support the process".

Trump has also nominated as his ambassador to Israel New York lawyer David Friedman, who is a well-known supporter of settlements and opposes a two-state solution.

While taking with reporters Thursday, Haley also accused the United Nations of having an anti-Israel bias.

But his nominee for the U.S. ambassadorship, his former bankruptcy lawyer, David Friedman, has been a long-term supporter of expanded settlements and even annexation of the West Bank. "We will never repeat the bad mistake of resolution 2334", she said of the settlements resolution. I'm very happy with the one that both parties like.
