Tostitos' bag will tell you when you're drunk

Your snacks can now call you a ride home on Super Bowl Sunday.

The bags, which are outfitted with sensors, are able to detect any trace of alcohol on a person's breath.

In all seriousness, if you are going to be drinking at a Super Bowl party, plan ahead.

The $10 Super Sunday discount was made in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving. When you exhale into the empty bag, the steering wheel on the front will stay green if you're good to go, or turn an angry red if it thinks you should stay on the couch or take an Uber instead. But thanks to Tostitos' intelligent bag of chips, you don't need to worry about fetching a ride. It's called the Tostitos Party Bag, and it contains sensor on the top near the seam to detect alcohol on a person's breath. The bag also uses near-field communication (NFC) technology, allowing fans to tap the bag with their phone to call a ride. After all, the Super Bowl is a cultural institution, and more than 100 million people are expected to tune in on February 5. Ten-plus years later, a Tostitos bag that helps you get your ass in an Uber is probably a step in the right direction too.

A Frito-Lay spokesperson says the goal is to remove some 25,000 drunk drivers from the roads on Superbowl Sunday. "Whether watching the big game at a friend's house or at a local bar, a safe ride home is just a few easy taps away". In 2015, 45 people were killed in drunk driving crashes on Super Bowl Sunday, which was almost half of all traffic fatalities that day, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If you've had too much too drive, it lights up red and reminds you to carefully rethink your next move. Just a gimmick? Or a helpful tool to reduce drunk driving?
