Snatched Florida newborn Kamiyah Mobley discovered after 18yrs

Velma Aiken the paternal grandmother of Kamiyah Mobley who was kidnapped as an infant 18 years ago gets a congratulatory hug from a family member after Mobley was found safe Friday

Gloria Williams, 51, was arrested and charged with kidnapping at her home at 5 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, 2017.

While the trail went cold, new information bubbled to the surface late previous year, Williams said.

Baby Kamiyah Mobley was a newborn when she was taken from a Jacksonville hospital in 1998, but DNA tests have now proved that she is alive and well.

News of Kamiyah being found alive made her biological family understandably ecstatic.

He said he does not known when Ms Mobley might contact her birth family adding that she is only beginning to come to terms with the fact that her true identity was stolen from her.

It's alleged Gloria Williams allegedly posed as a nurse and kidnapped her at just eight-hours-old.

The sheriff said police received a series of tips to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, that eventually led them to identifying Mobley.

"For law enforcement, even when a case is deemed cold, we're always looking for new information, a tip or an advancement of technology that furthers that investigation", Williams said. "She has a lot to process, she has a lot to think about" said Sheriff Mike Williams.

Stolen Infant Found

It wasn't until 2016, Williams said, that tips led authorities from Florida to SC, where they found a young woman with Kamiyah's birth date but a different name.

"From the detectives that I've been working on this for 18 years, putting another time, because we thought they weren't working on it, but they were still working on it, I have to tell them thank you and I appreciate that", Aiken said.

Craig Aiken, Mobley's biological father, drove up from Jacksonville to Walterboro, South Carolina to meet his daughter for the first time. "I'm going to give her a hug and a kiss". Although a massive search was undertaken at the time of the abduction, Mobley was never found. Williams was arrested Friday morning and has been charged with kidnapping and interference of custody. The hospital was renamed UF Health Jacksonville. "She wasn't an abused child or a child who got in trouble".

Mobley has been provided with a victim's advocate and authorities say they want to help her with whatever she may need.

Williams later blew a kiss to Mobley, who shouted: "I love you mum".

Mobley seems to be in good health, he said.

She emerged after about 40 minutes, shielded by police officers who covered her head with a sweater, and was driven away. Mobley was in the court room and told Williams that she was "praying for her".
