Grace Packer: Mum and boyfriend charged 'after raping and dismembering disabled girl'

- The mother of the teenage girl found dismembered on Halloween is now charged in her daughter's homicide.

Sullivan was arraigned early Sunday morning on charges of homicide, rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful restraint, kidnapping, possessing instruments of crime, endangering the welfare of a child, abuse of corpse, simple assault, tampering with physical evidence, and corresponding conspiracy charges.

Packer, who was declared a "person of interest" in the case at a December 22 press conference held jointly by Bucks, Montgomery and Luzerne county authorities, had been jailed in November on child endangerment and misdemeanor obstruction charges filed by prosecutors who alleged she "withheld critical information and gave misleading statements to police after reporting her daughter missing, inhibiting efforts to locate her".

The murder charges against Sullivan and Sara Packer come weeks after Sara Packer was first arrested and charged with obstruction and endangerment in connection with the case.

On Oct. 31, two hunters found her remains in a wooded area in Luzerne County.

Officials said Sullivan then told detectives he and Sara Packer drove a sleepy Grace from her home to a new house early in the morning on July 8 where he struck the youngster several times in her face before raping her, giving her an overdose of pills and leaving her to die in a hot attic. Finding that she wasn't dead even several hours later, Sullivan then strangled her to death.

According to court documents, Packer took Grace in as a foster child before adopting her and her biological brother.

Packer arrived at Newtown District Court wrapped in what appeared to be a white hospital blanket. Police at the time describe her as a runaway.

Still in the hospital for treatment on Saturday, Sullivan allegedly admitted to hospital personnel that he was responsible for Grace's murder and Sara was an accomplice.

There, Sullivan raped Grace while her adoptive mother watched, prosecutors say. I'm sorry that I am taking the coward's way out, but I don't have any strength left in me. A frequent Facebook user with a habit of posting about insignificant incidents, such as having a headache, Packer never once posted anything about her daughter's disappearance, according to investigators. I know you will always know that we had nothing to do with this no matter what lies they tell.

Packer is scheduled to be arraigned at noon Sunday before Judge Petrucci. She was already out on bail for charges filed in November following conclusions by police that she was deterring attempts to find her daughter, whom she had reported missing. Sullivan was arrested on Saturday, and Packer was arrested about three hours later, according to the district attorney's office.

Sullivan told investigators that Grace's body was packed into a container with cat litter to mask the smell, and left in the attic until an October police visit scared the couple.

Following the arraignment, Weintraub said Packer has not made any statements about the teen's death.

He is being held without bond and has a preliminary hearing on January 20.

Grace's disability was not immediately clear.
